Damien Lane saddled up Hawk Eye Jack for the Cessnock wine country race meeting on Thursday, August 27 in a maiden handicap over 1570 racing on a soft seven with Serg Lisnyy the pilot jumping from the widest alley with a field of 7 to compete.

As the gates flew back it was Helen Royale the race leader, Miss Tickles at odds was in second off the leaders rump Mademoiselle Zariz, was third on the fence with Pink Magnolia the well supported Robert Thompson runner positioned out wide from an outside gate had settled 4th with the Lane prepared runner Hawk Eye Jack settled at the tail of the field,  as the runners passed the 1350m.

Coming to the turn the order was unchanged with Helen Royale,Miss, Tickles Pink Magnolia & Mademoiselle Zaris all heavily prominent as Lisnyy steered Hawkeye Jack to the outside beginning a run prior to the turn with the talented hoop producing the persuader, coming into the event as widest runner.

Into the straight Helen Royale lead with Miss Tickles in second, Hawk Eye Jack loomed ominously on the outside with Grosvenor between runners, stride for stride the four runners made their way to the line with a close finish delivering the judge's orders of photos all round, & after a short deliberation Miss Tickles gained the verdict, with Hawk Eye Jack in second and Helena's Royale hanging onto third.
