A trip back home to Wyong for the Lane stable will prove a positive one, after their first stable runner, Pirate Ben took out the TAB handicap over 1400 m with Blake Shinn aboard.
Leaving the stalls on a heavy (8), Shinn put the lane runner hard up against the rail, taking on the lead with Miss Ballantine on the outside of that runner, Denzell was next followed by Speed Hero.
Entering the straight it was all Pirate Ben clearing out in the concluding stages with a champion ride from the champion jockey landing the prize in advance of Exitozo with Denzel the next runner in.
Shinn in the post race interview heaped praise on young Damien Lane quoting
“He’s a very underrated trainer who goes really good”.
