Damien Lane supplied Bench Star to Wellington race five in a benchmark 63 handicap over 1400 m with Greg Ryan in charge jumping from barrier 10 in a field of 10.

As the field set off it was The Brown One leading out on the rail with Dubai Bullet was off its rump, Strong was also positive in the early stages with Ruby Hill back on the fence with Sarona Downs prominent also as Bench Star was controlled by Ryan to take up a position midfield but still in touch with the leading group.

Round the side Strong had taken over Dubai Bullet was in second The Brown One was on the fence Sarona Downs was off its shoulder with Greg Ryan allowing the beautifully prepared Damien Lane commodity to cruise round the outside of the field and on straightening was coming at a rate of knots, right down the centre of the track and with around 200m from home, Bench Star worked to the lead and pretty much the rest were left to sort out the minors as the he cruised to the line to score by around 3 lengths on the line to Sarona Downs with Ruby Hill in third.

Congratulations to the ownership group consisting of Mr D F Lane, Mr S P Hodgson, Mr T J Lane, Miss D D Tagg, Mr S Barlow, Mrs S G Dewberry, Mr R F Smith on a solid effort.
