The Damien Lane prepared Pirate Ben took part in race seven on the Taree card in the Taree Cup Prelude with Rachel King aboard jumping from barrier five with the field of 9 to go around.

In the early stages of the event the race leader was Malleable, Egyptian Ruler third up from a spell with Andrew Gibbons aboard was in second, Pirate Ben was in third ridden by Rachel King with the partnership looking at three in the row with a good run here as Butane settled into fourth.

Rounding the turn 400m from the judge Malleable  was still in front Egyptian Ruler was out wide on a limb but still in a forward position, Pirate Ben was between runners as Marmadukes Lady started to make its way forward as the field settled for the run home.

Into the straight Pirate Ben and Get On The Grange had kicked clear and midway down the straight it was obvious the leading duo were going to fight out the seventh on the program one head up as one head down they made their way to the line, & in conclusion it was Get On The Grange narrowly defeating Pirate Ben with only a bob to separate,  Malleable stuck  on in third as Marmaduke lady  filled the top four positions, being late on the scene.
